Today U.S. Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18) announced $4 million in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grants for the Children's Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) program at Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. Having voted to establish the CHGME program in 1999, Eshoo has been a champion of the program that ensures that general pediatricians and pediatric specialists are trained to care for children in communities across the country, covering services from well-child visits to the most complex cardiac surgeries.

"I'm so pleased to see this critical funding applied to maintaining the pediatric workforce in my community," said Rep. Eshoo. "The CHGME program is the most important investment we make as a nation in strengthening the pediatric workforce and access to care for children. It trains doctors who go on to care for children living in cities, rural communities, suburbs across our country. As Covid-19 infections increase, boosting our pediatric workforce is key to addressing the needs of children and youth."

"Stanford Children's Health is grateful for the Children's Hospitals Graduate Medical Education Payment Program grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services," said Dennis Lund, MD, chief medical officer at Stanford Children's Health. "This funding will be used to train pediatric physicians to better serve our young patients, expectant mothers and their families."
