Feeney Supports FY07 NASA Budget Request

(Washington, D.C.) - Today, U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Oviedo) issued the following statement regarding NASA Administrator Mike Griffin's testimony to the House Science Committee:

"Today's testimony presented a clear-cut justification for future funding of the Vision for Space Exploration. I support Administrator Griffin's budget request for operating the Space Shuttle program through 2010 and developing the next generation of spacecraft for human spaceflight following the Shuttle's retirement.

I applaud Griffin's focus on planning and executing a productive transition of workforce and facilities from the Shuttle program to the Crew Exploration Vehicle program. Appropriate funding for NASA will ensure such a transition and allow America's human spaceflight program to break out of low earth orbit and go to the Moon, Mars, and beyond."

The Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) will succeed the current Space Shuttle system and is a critical part of America's Vision for Space Exploration. Administrator Griffin is striving to make the CEV operational soon after the Shuttle's retirement in 2010 and no later than 2014. The CEV will have the capability of transporting scientists and astronauts to the International Space Station as well as traveling to the Moon.

Rep. Feeney represents Florida's 24th District, which includes Kennedy Space Center.
