Istook Praises Supreme Court Hearing New-look court will hear partial-birth abortion case

02/21/06

Washington, D.C. -- Congressman Ernest Istook praised the newly-revamped U.S. Supreme Court for announcing today that it will review a dispute over the banning of partial-birth abortions. It will be the first test of whether the Court's two newest members will influence decades of decisions that have promoted nearly-unrestricted abortion.

"Congress banned this barbaric practice of late-term abortions in 2003," Istook said, "with even some of our most liberal members condemning this terrible practice of killing an infant that is on the verge of being born. Lower federal courts listened to the pro-death lobby and said it was unconstitutional to ban partial-birth abortions; now I hope we get a more civilized ruling, upholding the ban."
