Date: July 26, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, the New Democrat Coalition (NDC), led by NDC Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01) and Vice Chair for Policy Scott Peters (CA-52), announced the creation of three additional policy task forces on rural reinvestment, future of work and capitalism and trade. Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) was named Co-Chair of the Rural Reinvestment Task Force alongside Congresswoman Cindy Axne (IA-03).

"From unique health care challenges to a lack of access to high-speed internet, our rural areas are in need of strong investment as we work to build back better from this pandemic," said Congresswoman Bustos. "I'm thrilled to work alongside Congresswoman Axne and my New Democrat Coalition colleagues to bolster our work in Congress to strengthen our rural economies and support hardworking family farmers who feed the world and keep our supply chains strong."

The NDC policy task force will develop and advance solutions that address the challenges of the 21st century including outdated systems, technological innovation, rural health and broadband access and a changing global economy. This task force will build on New Dem priorities to create jobs, modernize our nation's systems and institutions, close opportunity gaps and provide Americans with the skills to succeed.

The NDC task force will be comprised of issue-area experts who serve on relevant committees of jurisdiction and can help advance the NDC's priorities through the House as the NDC works with the Biden-Harris administration to deliver on these pressing issues.

Congresswoman Bustos is the Chair of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management and serves on the House Task Force on Rural Broadband, which is led by House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (SC-06).

"New Dems are focused on getting things done and delivering tangible change for Americans so that they can succeed in the 21st century," said NDC Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01). "The NDC's task forces will continue to help deliver by developing policy ideas that promote equitable growth and opportunities for all Americans."

"As we emerge from the COVID-induced economic catastrophe, Congress must deliver results that bolster America's workforce, trade, and rural communities so we can build back better," said NDC Vice Chair for Policy Scott Peters (CA-52). "The NDC task forces we announced today will uncover vital solutions to tackle the challenges ahead."
