Scott Praises Biden Administration's School Reopening Roadmap

Statement

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, House Education and Labor Committee Chairman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after the Biden-Harris Administration released a School Reopening Roadmap to help schools reopen safely for in-person instruction.

"Getting students back into the classroom safely is one of the most important things we can do for children and families across the country. I applaud the Biden Administration for issuing clear and comprehensive guidance to help schools reopen safely for full, in-person instruction this fall.

"Since the start of the pandemic, school leaders, educators, and parents have been asking for clear guidance to protect the health of students and school staff, as well as the resources to follow those recommendations. The Biden Administration and Democrats in Congress were listening. With the historic $130 billion investment in the American Rescue Plan, the reopening roadmap released today, and additional materials released by the Department of Education, school districts now have the support they need to reopen safely, stay open safely, and make up for lost time in the classroom.

"It is now the responsibility of state and local leaders to use the emergency funding and evidence-based guidance to meet the needs of their students and their communities. More importantly, it is the responsibility of every eligible American to get vaccinated to protect themselves, their loved ones, and children younger than 12 who are not yet approved to receive the vaccine. Today's announcement is an important step toward helping all students get the quality, in-person education they need and deserve."
