Tonko Statement Repeating Call for Governor Cuomo to Resign

Statement

Date: Aug. 3, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Paul D. Tonko issued the following statement regarding the results of an independent investigation released today by New York Attorney General Letitia James finding that Governor Cuomo broke several laws and sexually harassed multiple women including members of his own staff:

"I called for a full and independent investigation earlier this year into credible allegations that Governor Cuomo sexually harassed several women including members of his own staff. In March, as those allegations grew even more troubling, I called on him to do the right thing for the people of New York and resign. The New York Attorney General's report today confirms my worst fears. The governor"s victims deserve justice, the people of our state deserve better and the governor needs to resign."

After multiple women came forward with credible allegations in February, Rep. Tonko called for a full, independent investigation by the Office of the New York Attorney General into the governor's actions. In March, Tonko and other members of the New York delegation responded to a new slate of even more troubling allegations, calling on Cuomo to resign.
