Espaillat, CHC Leadership Caution Against Anti-Immigrant Amendments in Budget Resolution

Statement

Date: Aug. 10, 2021
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Today, Senate Democrats released the FY2022 Budget Resolution text, which includes instructions for immigration reform provisions. Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Raul Ruiz, M.D. and CHC Immigration Executive Orders and Budget Reconciliation Sub-Task Force Co-Chairs Reps. Adriano Espaillat and Veronica Escobar released the following joint statement:

"The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) applauds the inclusion of immigration reform provisions in the budget resolution. Providing a pathway to citizenship for the millions of Dreamers, TPS holders, farmworkers, and essential workers will be monumental for our economic recovery and is clearly pertinent to the budget reconciliation process," said the Members. "As the Senate undergoes the budget reconciliation process, we call on our colleagues to oppose provisions that would undermine immigration reform efforts. The inclusion of any anti-immigrant amendment could threaten the package's prospects in the House of Representatives. The CHC remains a strong advocate for immigrant communities across our country and will continue working to ensure immigration is part of the budget reconciliation process, which will benefit our economy and our recovery."
