Butterfield Votes to Pass Government Funding Package

Today, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4502-- a package of appropriations bills that provides funding for most of the federal government and includes funding for projects in the First Congressional District of North Carolina:

"Today, House Democrats continued to push forward on making investments in the American people. I applaud the passage of H.R. 4502, which will not only provide essential government funding, but will also create good paying American jobs, grow opportunity for the middle class and small businesses, and aid working families and the vulnerable," said Butterfield. "The package also includes nearly $23 million in funding for projects across the First Congressional District of North Carolina that will strengthen our local economies and improve the lives of my constituents. I am proud that nine projects that I requested on behalf of my constituents were included in the bill, delivering on a promise to build back better for the American people."

Background

H.R. 4502, the Fiscal Year 2022 Seven-Bill Appropriations Minibus, includes the following seven appropriations bills: Labor-HHS-Education; Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA; Energy and Water Development; Financial Services and General Government; Interior-Environment; Military Construction and Veterans Affairs; and Transportation-HUD. A brief breakdown of the appropriations package includes:

$3.1 billion in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Adult and Youth State Grants
$439,000 in additional WIOA funding for job training in NC-01
$36 billion in Title I education funds
$54.9 million in additional funding for schools in NC-01
$98.5 billion for veterans' healthcare
$64.9 million in additional funding for veterans' healthcare in NC-01
Over $400 million to address unacceptable persistent health disparities
$800 million for the ReConnect rural broadband program
Nearly $33 billion in housing assistance and rental assistance
$53.2 billion addressing climate change while creating tens of thousands of good-paying jobs, and rebuilding water infrastructure
$43.4 billion that creates jobs, support Native Americans, and foster equality
Construct critical facilities on military installations including $1.4 billion for family housing, and $116 million to address mold, vermin, and lead issues in military family housing
$2.2 billion to address veteran homelessness
$97.6 billion for veterans' medical care which prioritizes mental healthcare
$3.77 billion for energy efficiency and renewable energy, including $375 million to support weatherization of nearly 50,000 low-income households
