Bergman Defeats Ocasio-Cortez Amendment After Spirited Debate on House Floor

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Marijuana Drugs

Yesterday, following a lengthy debate on the House Floor, in an increasingly rare bipartisan moment, 86 Democrats and 198 Republicans joined Rep. Jack Bergman in opposition to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's amendment.

The amendment would strike an existing provision in law that protects taxpayer dollars from being used to promote Schedule 1 drug legalization while ensuring funds can be used for therapeutic research involving these substances.

AOC claimed her amendment supported therapeutic research, even though it would actually gut this provision.

On the House floor, Rep. Bergman called out AOC for her disingenuous amendment that does the opposite of what she claims it would do and publicly recognized the need to support those, such as Veterans, facing critical diseases like mental illness.
