Statement

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Sen. Sherrod Brown, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, released the following statement regarding Ranking Member Toomey's letter to President Biden urging him to withdraw Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) nominees: Ms. Julia Gordon nominee, to be Assistant Secretary of HUD; and Mr. Solomon J. Greene to be Assistant Secretary of HUD.

"Senator Toomey is asking the president to withdraw nominees over retweets. This is political theater -- an attempt by my Republican colleague to create a reality that does not exist. These nominees are dedicated professionals who are ready to address our nation's housing crisis. For years, Republicans did nothing as the former President tweeted racist and vile things. Their fake outrage now is nothing but a distraction because they know they can't attack these nominees on their record or qualifications."
