Rep. Sherrill Statement on Launch of Expanded Child Tax Credit

Statement

Date: July 15, 2021
Location: Parsippany, NJ

Parsippany, NJ -- Today, Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement on the first payments of the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) being sent out today, July 15th. As a core component of the American Rescue Plan, these payments will support our economic recovery from COVID-19 by increasing consumer spending and will cut child poverty by an estimated 45%.

"I am committed to making New Jersey more affordable for families across the state. This expansion of the Child Tax Credit is a landmark tax cut for middle class and working families across New Jersey and the entire country," said Rep. Sherrill. "I fought hard to include this provision in the American Rescue Plan because I know how crucial it is to offer this kind of direct aid and support to families. The high cost of living in our state has made it harder and harder to raise a family in New Jersey. This tax cut will help families continue to raise their children in New Jersey and take advantage of our state's continued investment in education, innovation, and our workforce. This tax cut puts money directly in parents' pockets, and is one of the core building blocks of our economic recovery."

Across New Jersey's 11th Congressional District, the expanded Child Tax Credit will impact 57.1% of children -- or 91,300 kids, provide roughly 30,300 NJ-11 households an average benefit of $2,300, and lift 4,500 children in the district out of poverty.
