Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), member of the Energy and Commerce Committee's Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, introduced a bill to promote transparency and accountability at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The Federal Trade Commission Transparency Act would require the FTC to publicly publish documents to be considered by the Commission on the federal agency's website at least 30 days before a vote.

"I'm proud to introduce a bill that would bring more transparency to the federal government to better serve Americans. The FTC is responsible for protecting consumers from unfair and deceptive practices, and the Federal Trade Commission Transparency Act would give consumers a more open process to allow participation and input in consumer issues that impact them," said Guthrie.

The Federal Trade Commission Transparency Act provides exceptions to the 30-day requirement, such as if the document is classified, confidential, or would result in an invasion of privacy.
