Hearing of the House Energy and Commerce Committee - Opening Statement of Rep. Pence, Markup on 24 bipartisan health and cybersecurity bills

Hearing

Date: July 21, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Greg Pence offered the following opening remarks during the House Energy and Commerce Committee markup of 24 bipartisan health and cybersecurity bills. One of the bills set to be considered is the Secure Equipment Act of 2021, which Congressman Pence cosponsored with Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA.) to prevent companies backed by the Chinese Communist Party from operating in American markets.

Video of the Congressman's remarks can be found here, and they are as prepared for delivery below.

Thank you Chairman Pallone and Ranking Member Rodgers for holding this markup today.

The 24 bills under consideration touch everything from opioid abuse and maternal health to protecting our telecommunication networks from national security threats.

I'd like to take a moment to rise in support of the work this committee has produced on a bipartisan basis.

I'm proud to be part of an esteemed committee that can put partisan differences aside for the sake of our constituents.

It is clear with the slate of bills before us today that we are more productive for the American people when we work across party lines.

I want to thank my colleagues for their work in moving these bills forward, including the Secure Equipment Act, which I am proud to have joined as a cosponsor with Congressman Scalise and Congresswoman Eshoo.

I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to continue down this bipartisan path.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman, I yield back.
