Rep. Luria Invokes Her Oath In First Select Committee Hearing Investigating January 6

Press Release

Date: July 27, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Elaine Luria today participated in the first hearing of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol. In her questions to four law enforcement officers who were on the frontlines of the attack, Congresswoman Luria invoked the oath she first swore as a 17-year-old at the U.S. Naval Academy, many times during the course of her 20 years of military service, and twice as a member of Congress.

"Our founders understood that the Republic was fragile, and it would be tested. It is a testament to the words those men wrote in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights that we have persevered for over 230 years," Congresswoman Luria said at the hearing. "We will be attacked by people more concerned about their own power, than the good of the country. But my oath, and your oath, to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, will be our guiding light. We will persevere and we will do what is right."
