Issues: Taxes Family

Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32) today released a short survey seeking to learn how the improved and expanded Child Tax Credit will make a difference for North Texas families. Allred released his survey days after parents began receiving initial payments of this benefit, which he supported in the American Rescue Plan.

"I was raised by a single mom and can only imagine what a difference these changes to the Child Tax Credit would have made for our family. I was proud to vote to put this money in parents' pockets and am excited to listen and learn what it will mean for their families," said Allred. "Hearing from North Texans is one of the most important parts of my job, and I invite North Texans to take my survey so I can understand the impact of this legislation to learn how I can best continue to fight for middle-class North Texas families in Congress."

On March 10, Allred voted to pass the American Rescue Plan Act, which included a provision that temporarily increased the Child Tax Credit to $3,000 for children ages 6-17 and $3,600 for children under 6. The legislation also improved the credit so that it is partially issued in monthly payments.

An estimated 162,300 children, or 84.9%, in the 32nd district will benefit from the expanded and improved Child Tax Credit. These changes will lift 13,400 children in the district out of poverty, including 4,700 kids under the age of six, and 1,800 children out of deep poverty. The average benefit for 48,100 households in Texas' 32nd district is $3,000.
