Scalise Announces #1 Million in House Labor and Education Bill for St. Tammany Health System Mobile Screening Bus

Today, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) announced that he has secured $1 million in the House Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) subcommittee bill for the St. Tammany Health System to purchase and operate a mobile screening bus to provide health screenings and education to residents in St. Tammany and Washington Parishes.

Mammography will be the primary screening offered through the mobile unit, but other screenings for colorectal cancer, skin cancer, head and neck cancer, and prostate cancer will be available as well. Additional health screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, and arterial ultrasounds will also be offered on through the program.

"I am happy to see my request for the St. Tammany Health System mobile cancer screening bus get included in the LHHS bill moving through Congress. Routine cancer screenings are very important in helping to detect cancer at an early stage and, in turn, save countless lives. In the fight against cancer, early detection and prevention are vital for leading a long and healthy life. The mobile screening bus will provide residents in St. Tammany and Washington Parishes with additional early screening and detection services, leading to better health outcomes in our communities," said Whip Scalise.
