Kaptur Energy and Water Bill Would Direct Millions of Dollars in Infrastructure, Project Funding to Northern Ohio

Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, released the following statement after legislation she sponsored, the 2022 Energy and Water Development funding bill, passed the House Appropriations committee. Next, the legislation will be considered by the full House. As Chair of the subcommittee with jurisdiction over appropriations for the Department of Energy, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Bureau of Reclamation, Rep. Kaptur crafted the $53.226 billion bill which would deliver critical federal dollars to northern Ohio.

"From millions of dollars in new funding for clean energy technologies, workforce development, and Lake Erie restoration - to an innovative weatherization assistance program that will lower utility bills and keep families safe in their homes - this legislation not only addresses some of our region's most urgent needs, but prepares us for the challenges and opportunities ahead," said Rep. Kaptur. "By investing significant new resources in our energy and water infrastructure - and taking aggressive action to combat, and mitigate the effects of climate change - we will spur revitalization in communities along the Lake Erie shore, and create the good-paying jobs that middle class workers and their families deserve."

$480 million for the Soo Locks, $356.8 million above previous year.
$3.375 million for the City of Lorain's Environmental Infrastructure project.
$500,0000 for the Great Lakes Coastal Resiliency Study.
$4.9 million for the Brandon Road Project.
$10 million for the Cleveland Harbor.
$1.5 million for the Sandusky Harbor.
$5.7 million for the Vermilion Harbor.
$8 million for harmful algal bloom research and development, $4 million above previous year.
$250 million for Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program -- with specific funding directed toward Cleveland, OH.
DOE/Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy

$30 million within Solar Energy Technologies for cadmium telluride, $10 million above previous year.
$10 million within Advancing Manufacturing Office for advanced tooling for lightweight automotive components to lead the transition to electric vehicle and mobility solutions.
$29 million within Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies for hydrogen/nuclear demonstration projects, $14 million above previous year -- the Davis-Besse nuclear power station in Ottawa County, OH is part of current partnership receiving funds.
$2.5 million within Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies for perovskite-based hydrogen catalysts -- relevant to University of Toledo work.
