Rep. Mondaire Jones Secures Nearly $9 Million for Ny-17 Projects in House Appropriations Bill

Today, Congressman Mondaire Jones (NY-17) announced that nine of the 10 funding requests he submitted on behalf of New York's 17th Congressional District were included in Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) funding bills unveiled by the House Appropriations Committee this week, totalling nearly $9 million in federal funding for vital projects across Westchester and Rockland Counties. The funding requests were submitted as part of the new Community Project Funding program, which allows Members of Congress to request federal funds for certain qualifying projects in their districts.

"I ran for Congress to ensure Westchester and Rockland received the resources and support they deserve, and I'm thrilled to be doing exactly that," said Congressman Jones. "Totalling nearly $9 million, these projects will be truly transformative for individuals and communities across our district - from Port Chester to Spring Valley. I'm proud to have secured this vital funding for our district, and I'll continue fighting for the federal investments our communities need and deserve."

Refuah Health Center -- New Center of Excellence for Women's Health - $2,000,000
The funding will be used to construct and equip an approx. 10,000 square foot facility at RefuahHealth, a federally-qualified health center (FQHC) headquartered in Spring Valley, that will house the Center of Excellence for Women's Health at Refuah.
Rockland County Pride Center -- Outpatient Diagnostic and Treatment Facility - $1,500,000
This funding will be used for the Montefiore Nyack Hospital to construct a new Outpatient Diagnostic and Treatment Facility at the Rockland County Pride Center and/or expand the Pride Center's Outpatient Diagnostic and treatment facility.
Town of Yorktown -- Hallocks Mill Sewer Extension Project, Phase 1, Engineering Design - $1,200,000
The funding will be used for the construction of new sewers around the regionally significant Sparkle Lake in the Birch Street, Sunrise Street, and Sparkle Lake sub areas.
Town of Clarkstown -- West Nyack Revitalization - $1,000,000
The funding will be used for water drainage system upgrades, wetland and stream habitat restoration, and stormwater management improvements with the intent of reducing flooding and revitalizing the historic hamlet of West Nyack. The project will create 130 jobs in construction and an additional 112 in indirect and induced jobs.
Town of Greenburgh -- NYS Rt. 100B -- Dobbs Ferry Road Sidewalk Project - $1,000,000
This funding will create a sidewalk on Dobbs Ferry Road, a heavily trafficked state road of approximately 10,000 daily vehicle trips, to improve safety for pedestrians and drivers alike.
YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester -- Capital Improvements to the YWCA's North Street Activity Center - $640,000
This funding will create a new space for the YWCA's Westchester Center for Racial Equity, expand the Children's Learning Center and Kids Connection classroom space, and finance new roofing to allow the YWCA gymnastics program to continue.
Peekskill Housing Authority -- Dunbar Kitchen Modernization Project - $310,000
The funding will be used for improvements in 96 Dunbar Heights public housing units, which will include new energy-efficient appliances, new painting and flooring with stronger and modern building materials, and new, upgraded kitchen appliances since the kitchens haven't been upgraded in 20 years.
Spring Valley MLK Multi-Purpose Center -- Community Green Development - $295,000
This funding will turn a vacant lot in an economically-challenged neighborhood -- an area that currently has no open space where children can play or adults can congregate safely -- into a vibrant community greenspace.
Village of Port Chester -- Village Hall Boiler Replacement - $250,000
The funding will be used to provide a clean, cost-effective alternative for traditional heating and cooling by eliminating fossil fuels and reducing energy bills while also complementing New York State's Clean Heat initiative and highlighting Port Chester as an exemplary partner within the community.
The inclusion of this funding in the Appropriations Committee's draft bills is the first step in the funding process. Congressman Jones will continue to fight for this funding as the bill moves to the full Appropriations Committee, consideration on the House Floor, and negotiations with the Senate.

About Mondaire: Mondaire Jones is the 34-year-old Congressman from New York's 17th District, serving Westchester and Rockland Counties. He serves on the House Judiciary, Education and Labor, and Ethics Committees and is the first openly gay, Black member of Congress. A product of East Ramapo public schools, Mondaire was raised in Section 8 housing and on food stamps in the Village of Spring Valley by a single mother who worked multiple jobs to provide for their family. He later graduated from Stanford University, worked at the Department of Justice during the Obama Administration, and graduated from Harvard Law School. He is a co-founder of the nonprofit Rising Leaders, Inc. and has previously served on the NAACP's National Board of Directors and on the board of the New York Civil Liberties Union. Most recently, Mondaire worked as a litigator in the Westchester County Law Department. In November, Mondaire was unanimously elected by his colleagues to be the Freshman Representative to Leadership, making him the youngest member of the Democratic House leadership team. In December, Jones was appointed a Deputy Whip of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and became a Co-Chair of the LGBTQ Equality Caucus. Mondaire was born and raised in Rockland and resides in Westchester.
