Langevin to Hardworking RI Families: "Child Tax Credit Payments Begin Today!"

Press Release

Date: July 15, 2021
Location: Warwick, RI

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) encouraged families to keep an eye out for the expanded child tax credit payments starting today, July 15th. Thanks to the American Rescue Plan Act, families will start receiving up to $300 per month per child through the end of 2021.

An estimated 82.9% of children in the Second District will benefit from the tax credit, with the average benefit of $2,500 per household, and 2,900 children will be lifted out of poverty. Nationally, the expanded tax credit is expected to slash child poverty in nearly half.

"The American Rescue Plan Act was a transformational investment in the middle class, and it is delivering economic relief for Rhode Island families and setting kids up for future success," said Rep. Jim Langevin. "Starting today, expanded child tax credit payments will help thousands of families pay for food, child care, and other monthly expenses as our economy begins to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. I strongly encourage all eligible families to be on the look out for these payments."

Most families should get their monthly payments automatically beginning today with no further action required.

Families who did not file a tax return for 2019 or 2020 and who did not use the IRS non-filers tool last year to sign up for the Economic Impact Payments should go online and use the IRS Child Tax Credit Non-filer Sign-up Tool to sign up today. Second District residents having trouble accessing the expanded child tax credit can also call Congressman Langevin's Warwick Office at 401-732-9400 for assistance.
