Shelby Releases Bill to Fund National Guard, Capitol Police

Press Release

Date: July 12, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Senate Appropriations Committee Vice Chairman Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today introduced a security supplemental appropriations bill to provide $632.9 million in needed funding for the National Guard and the U.S. Capitol Police due to additional costs incurred related to the events of January 6th. Without supplemental resources, the National Guard and the U.S. Capitol Police will run out of funding before the end of the fiscal year.

Vice Chairman Shelby stated, "We all agree we must provide desperately-needed funding for the Capitol Police and National Guard. My bill answers these needs.

"I urge my Democrat colleagues to join me in passing this bill without further delay. Funding for the Capitol Police and National Guard must not be held hostage because the Democrats insist on billions more in spending that lacks full support at this time.

"The clock is ticking. Let's pass what we all agree on."
