WARSAW, VA- Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) released the following statement in response to Virginia breaking ground on a new broadband project which will deliver high-speed internet to approximately 7,200 underserved homes and businesses in the Northern Neck:

"For the 7,200 underserved homes and businesses who will finally gain access to high-speed internet as a result of this project, it represents much more. Now, these homes and businesses will finally be able to fully compete in today's digital economy. And in turn, have access to options such as telework, distance learning, and telemedicine. As we become more and more reliant upon the internet, closing the digital divide has become more important than ever. The digital divide will not be closed in any one decisive action but through the combined efforts of public-private partnerships such as this one. I'm proud to have advocated for, and supported the funding of, this project and hope to see it completed without delay."

Congressman Wittman previously wrote to Governor Northam's Broadband Office in support of this project and worked with All Points Broadband CEO Jimmy Carr to further build support. Additionally, Congressman Wittman previously hosted Former FCC Chair Ajit Pai for the first iteration of Congressman Wittman's FCC Fireside Chat Series, who attended today's groundbreaking.
