U.S. Rep. Lawrence Tours Communities and Meets with Families Affected by Historic Flooding in SE Michigan

Today, U.S. Representative Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) toured communities and met with families affected by the recent flooding in Southeast Michigan. She visited Harper Woods, Grosse Pointe City, Grosse Pointe Park, Jefferson Chalmers, and Hamtramck. Rep. Lawrence was joined by Harper Woods Mayor Valerie Kindle and Grosse Pointe Mayor Sheila Tomkowiak in their respective cities.

"As a result of the numerous calls and messages from my constituents, I wanted to be on the ground to tour our communities and meet with families affected by the flooding. Hearing the stories and seeing the anguish on people's faces in person was heartbreaking," said Rep. Lawrence. "One of the most shocking takeaways from my conversations was the amount of sewer water that got into and around people's homes. One constituent said that water was reaching the basement ceiling, coming up the stairs to the next level, and creeping up to their front porch. Our communities have been absolutely devastated, and I've been rolling up my sleeves and talking with local and federal leaders and agencies about what needs to get done. I will make sure that Southeast Michiganders get the resources and help that they need."
