Statement

Date: June 30, 2021
Location: Jersey City, NJ

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), chairman of the Banking Subcommittee on Securities, Insurance, and Investment released the following statement on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) naming New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal the SEC's Director of the Division of Enforcement:

"I can't think of a better, more qualified individual than Gurbir Grewal to lead the SEC's enforcement efforts, protect investors, uphold the nation's securities laws, and keep Wall Street honest. As New Jersey's top cop, Attorney General Grewal has led the Department of Law & Public Safety's 3,700 uniformed officers, 750 lawyers, and thousands more investigators, regulators and support staff--a department that includes the New Jersey State Police and oversees all 21 independent county prosecutors' offices. New Jersey is a safer, fairer, and more accepting place because of his service. Attorney General Grewal brings a wealth of experience to the position having previously served as Bergen County Prosecutor and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney prosecuting white collar and cybercrimes in the District of New Jersey and assigned to the Business and Securities Fraud Unit in the Eastern District of New York. Gurbir Grewal is a trailblazer, a brilliant legal mind, and a dedicated public servant who, I have no doubt, will pursue justice where ever it leads to hold bad actors accountable, root out fraud, and defend the rights of everyday investors."
