Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) secured key provisions in multiple appropriations bills to improve flood mitigation and preparedness in Iowa's first district.

"I am proud to have secured both funding and provisions in appropriations bills that will help ensure that family homes are protected, that farmers have the resources they need to recover and build long-term resilience to natural disasters, and that our community can make informed decisions about development. We have no idea when the next flood might be, but I'm going to do everything I can to make sure our community is resilient and has the resources to prepare." -Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

"Communities across northeast Iowa are facing more frequent flooding and stronger storms. AFC is proud to recognize Congresswoman Hinson, our first Federal Champion from Iowa, for her leadership to ensure transparency and provide property owners with the best possible information so that they can better understand their flood risk." -Melissa Roberts, Executive Director, American Flood Coalition (AFC)

To help ensure that IA-01 is prepared for future floods, Rep. Hinson secured:

$275,500,000 for flood hazard mapping and risk analysis in the House Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee bill.
Language directing FEMA to improve and be more transparent about the agency's Individual Assistance program intended to help individuals rebuild after disasters. The provision calls on FEMA to implement changes to the application and reapplication process for assistance, specifically to help rural communities.
This provisions builds on the letter Hinson wrote to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell regarding issues Iowans were experiencing regarding FEMA's Individual Assistance program.
An amendment to the House Appropriations Ag-FDA Subcommittee bill to direct the USDA to prioritize preparedness by using resources to mitigate the devastation that hurricanes, derechos, flooding, and heavy rainfall have on agricultural communities.
An amendment to the House Appropriations Ag-FDA Subcommittee bill advocating for farmers to receive crop loss relief through the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program (WHIP +).
