Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $10,183,082 federal grant to Shore Up! Inc., a non-profit Community Action Partnership in Salisbury whose focus is to help people reach personal economic independence. Funding for this grant originated from the Head Start Program, a division of the Administration for Children and Families within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Specifically, the Head Start Program is designed to promote school readiness of children ages birth to five years old from low-income families by supporting the development of the whole child.

Congressman Harris issued the following statement:

"I'm pleased to hear that Head Start has once again awarded this funding to Shore Up!, as this announcement is always exciting news for the Lower Shore. Shore Up!'s efforts with early childhood education and promoting economic self-sufficiency are an effective way to reduce poverty and promote individual success in our local Eastern Shore communities."
