Representative Mike Garcia (CA-25) released the following statement after he was appointed to the China Accountability Task Force (CTF) by Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23). The task force will ensure that America remains competitive with China and a leader on the global stage by advancing policy solutions that prioritize American advancement and economic opportunity.

"I'm honored to serve on the China Accountability Task Force and fight to ensure America remains a leader on the global stage. In Congress, ensuring America remains safe and secure is one of my top priorities, and staying ahead of China plays a critical role in that mission. We cannot let nations like China surpass us in any arena. It is important we ensure that our military has the resources needed to keep our nation safe and secure, we remain economically competitive with China, and that we stay ahead of China regarding innovative advancements on all fronts but especially science and technology. We also must investigate and hold China accountable for any role they may have played in the origins of COVID-19. I want to thank Leader McCarthy for appointing me to this task force. I look forward to working with Congressman McCaul and my colleagues on the task force to advancing policy solutions that put America first and ensure we remain a secure, strong, and prosperous nation for generations to come," said Garcia.

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy released the following statement on Garcia's appointment to the CTF:

"Congressman Garcia's decorated background as a United States Naval Officer and combat veteran gives him a unique and valuable perspective that will benefit the China Task Force in their pursuit to counter the threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party. I am confident that Mike will be a key contributor in the task force's efforts to uncover the origins of Covid-19, win the technological and economic competition with China, and ensure that our military has the resources needed to reaffirm their position as the most powerful in the world," said Republican Leader McCarthy.

Representative Michael McCaul (TX-10), the leader of the CTF, released the following statement on Garcia's appointment to the task force:

"I am pleased to welcome Congressman Mike Garcia to the China Task Force for the 117th Congress. As we continue to focus our efforts on countering the malign activity of the Chinese Communist Party, his expertise and experience will be valuable to continuing our critical work to implement all the report's recommendations and look into new solutions to the China challenge," said Representative McCaul.

Garcia has continually called for the need for the U.S. to remain competitive with China. Last week, Garcia spoke on the House Floor about the need to hold China accountable for its role in the origins of COVID-19 -- watch it here.
