U.S. Rep. Newman Secures $640,000 for Infrastructure Improvements in Hickory Hills as part of House Appropriations Bill

As part of this year's community project funding from the House Committee on Appropriations, U.S. Representative Marie Newman (D-IL-03) announced today that she has secured $640,000 in federal funding for the City of Hickory Hills. Upon passage in Congress, the funding would be used to update 20,000 linear feet of sanitary sewers in a low-income portion of the city, reducing basement backups and sanitary sewer overflows.

"In my five months serving in Washington, I have been proud to fight for infrastructure investments that will improve the quality of life of my constituents," said Congresswoman Marie Newman. "By securing this funding for the City of Hickory Hills, we can modernize a sewer system that services thousands of residents, improving their wellbeing and the public health of the city as a whole. I was proud to work with Mayor Howley to obtain funding for this project, and I look forward to continuing to work together to ensure that residents of Illinois' Third District have the highest quality public services."

The funding under the legislation will provide a valuable service to the community of Hickory Hills by reducing the inflow and infiltration of their sewer system, especially in areas of the city with a low-income population. This project will not only improve the health and safety of these Hickory Hills residents but also the property values and environment of the entire city.

The funding request was approved today by the Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies. In addition to this request, Congresswoman Newman has submitted nine other community projects for funding consideration, which will be considered for approval in the coming weeks. Earlier this week, Congresswoman Newman announced approval of $80,000 in federal funding to support a small business incubator in Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood.
