Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Robin Kelly today announced $1,219,234 in grant funding for local Head Start Programs that she helped secure through the American Rescue Plan.

"This investment will help our local Head Start programs continue preparing children within the 2nd District and throughout Illinois for success, and help parents know that their children are safe and cared for when they go back to work," Congresswoman Kelly said. "Another important benefit is that preschool programs like Head Start have been shown in evidence-based studies to increase education equality across races, geography and income."

Governors State University President, Dr. Cheryl Green said, " We truly appreciate the award of this supplemental grant that will allow GSU to expand its efforts to assist more families in need and to hire more staff to ensure the safety of our programs. We are committed to serving as a principal means of educational growth, vitality and development for our children. Governors State University and the Family Development Center are proud to continue our legacy of serving our region with educational excellence."

The following schools and organizations within the 2nd District received American Rescue Plan grants for Head Start programs:

Illinois Action for Children $559,962

Kankakee School District 111 $458,260

Child Care Resource & Referral $114,864

Governors State University $86,148

Illinois will receive nearly $1.3 billion in funding for child care programs and assistance through the American Rescue Plan. That funding is part of the ARP's $45 billion overall investment to help Illinois and other states keep child care and Head Start programs open, keep workers on the job, and lower costs for working families.

More child care aid is coming to nearly all hardworking families through a Monthly Child Tax Credit Payments of up to $300 per child. Funds will start hitting banks accounts automatically on July 15. That's roughly 39 million households, covering almost 90 percent of children nationwide.
