Thompson Announces Federal Grant for Learning Lamp of Johnstown

Press Release

Date: June 29, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Glenn "GT" Thompson announced The Learning Lamp of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, is the recipient of a $234,490 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) grant. This funding will support the Workforce Through Apprenticeships in Early Learning program by providing ten apprenticeships across eight communities creating fifteen new jobs.

"As the Co-Chair of the Bipartisan House Career and Technical Education Caucus, I fully understand the importance of skills-based education. With this grant, the Learning Lamp will be able to provide apprentices the opportunity to earn a Child Development Associate credential. By investing in workforce development programs, we can provide learners of all ages the opportunity to continue their education. In this case, qualified early childhood care providers will have the added benefit of providing working parents peace of mind that their young ones are in good hands," said Congressman Glenn "GT" Thompson.

"The Learning Lamp is deeply appreciative of the ARC's willingness to invest in the early childhood workforce. Child care workers are critical support for businesses and our economy. When child care workers have the opportunity to learn and grow, they are better able to educate our children and provide quality, reliable care so that parents can go to work and stay on the job. We are also thankful for Congressman Glenn Thompson and his staff for assisting us in securing this critical funding." Dr. Leah Spangler, CEO of the Learning Lamp.
