Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Veterans

Today, U.S. Representative Barry Moore (AL-02), Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity of the U.S. House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, led an oversight hearing on veteran homelessness in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moore focused his opening statement and witness questions on new challenges facing veterans and the need for Congress to continue exploring new ways to address the problem of veteran homelessness while performing proper oversight of existing programs and spending.

After receiving an invitation from Moore, Lula Skowronek with Veterans Priority in Alabama testified to the subcommittee and answered questions from Moore and other members of the subcommittee about the innovative programs Veterans Priority is using to help Alabama's homeless veterans.

"While we have made great strides in reducing veteran homelessness, the pandemic and now the inflation driven by the Biden's administration's policies have created new challenges for our veterans that Congress must address. We must commit to the difficult work of determining the right mix of programs and spending while performing the oversight necessary to ensure taxpayer dollars are being used effectively. I want to thank Lula Skowronek for sharing her expertise with members of the subcommittee today and for her continued work on behalf of Alabama's veterans," said Ranking Member Barry Moore.

"I am amazed how local programs and government agencies have risen to the occasion and made changes to ensure our most vulnerable heroes have a safe, stable place to call home. I am incredibly proud of the work Priority Veteran does and am honored to have the opportunity to speak with [the subcommittee]," said Lula Skowronek with Veterans Priority in Alabama.
