U.S. Representative Charlie Crist (D-St. Petersburg) released a statement following House passage of H.R. 3325, legislation to award Congressional Gold Medals to United States Capitol Police Officers and others who protected the U.S. Capitol during the January 6th attack. The legislation, which passed by a vote of 406-21, specifically honors Officer Eugene Goodman.

In January, Congressman Crist introduced bipartisan legislation to honor Officer Goodman after footage inside the capitol revealed Officer Goodman valiantly placing himself in harm's way to protect Senators, staff, and reporters during the attacks. Following the vote, Congressman Crist issued the following statement.

"Eugene Goodman is a hero in every sense of the word," said Rep. Crist. "The way Officer Goodman lived up to his call of duty alongside so many of our Capitol Police officers that dark day saved countless lives and allowed the work of America's democracy to continue. Officer Goodman will be remembered as an American hero, and I'm thrilled to see the House of Representatives honor him this evening with Congressional Gold Medal legislation. His bravery, along with all of the United States Capitol Police and the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department, gives me hope. While it is imperative that we get to the bottom of what transpired that dark day, we draw strength and inspiration from those who selflessly fought to defend American democracy."
