Statement

Date: June 12, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Charlie Crist (D-St. Petersburg) released the following statement on the 5th anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, FL:

"Five years ago, 49 beautiful souls were taken too soon in the deadliest mass shooting against the LGBTQ+ community in our history. My heart still breaks for the families, loved ones, and entire LGBTQ+ and Hispanic communities affected by this devastating act of terrorism. I cannot fathom the deep pain, but I do know this -- this community is strong and will overcome. To the LGBTQ+ community: I stand with you, I love you, and I am your ally. Florida continues to heal with you.

"With the signature of President Biden, the hallowed ground of Pulse will become a national memorial. With it, we honor those taken from us and remember the love, strength, and healing within this community."
