Statement by Congressman Brian Higgins

Press Release

Date: June 17, 2021

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) released the following statement in response today's ruling by the Supreme Court on the Affordable Care Act (ACA):

"When the opponents of the Affordable Care Act lost their battle to take away health care from millions of Americans in Congress in 2017, they then turned to the courts looking for a sympathetic ear. Today's ruling, finding that the claimants lacked basic standing to bring this case, makes clear this was a shallow and callous attempt to undermine the economic security of hardworking Americans. We will continue to fight for quality, affordable healthcare, building on the promise of the ACA, this Congress."

Higgins, a long-time staunch supporter of the protections offered by the ACA, has fought time and time again in its defense. In February of last year Higgins spoke in a Ways and Means Committee hearing to point out that the Trump Administration's attempts to eliminate healthcare coverage for those with pre-existing conditions would jeopardize the health of vulnerable populations.
