Stauber's Aviation Safety Bill Advances Out of House of Representatives

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Congressman Pete Stauber's (MN-08) aviation safety legislation titled the Notice to Airmen Improvement Act passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support. This is Stauber's first bill to pass the House in the 117th Congress.

Of his legislation's passage, Stauber stated, "As a Member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I've heard from a number of pilots who have expressed concerns over the inefficiencies of the NOTAM system. Modern aviation is incredibly safe, but in order to keep it that way, we must constantly work to improve upon safety protocols. That's why I am proud to lead legislation that will help iron-out the kinks in the NOTAM system and make both commercial and general aviation even safer than it already is. Americans are more excited than ever to travel, so I thank my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for supporting this commonsense bill and promoting safety in our skies."

Specifically, this legislation would establish a Federal Aviation Association (FAA) taskforce to determine what improvements should be made to the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) system, which alerts pilots of potential hazards along a flight route or at a location that could affect the safety of the flight.

As a Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, Stauber has overseen this legislation's passage both last Congress and now this one.
