Wexton Proposal to Fund New Route 7 and Hillsboro Road Interchange in Purcellville Included in Surface Transportation Bill

Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) announced today that her request for $10 million to fund a new interchange at Route 7 and Route 690 (Hillsboro Road) was included in the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's surface transportation reauthorization bill. The bill, titled the INVEST in America Act, must next be passed out of the Committee before going to the full House for a vote.

"I'm excited to announce that our new legislation to invest in America's roads, bridges, and railways will include funding to improve the Route 7 and Hillsboro Road interchange in Purcellville," said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. "This new interchange will help make the Purcellville community more accessible and connected, especially for the families of Woodgrove High School and Mountain View Elementary. As we continue to work with the Biden administration on crafting a historic investment in infrastructure, I'll keep fighting to ensure our local needs are met and be a strong advocate in Congress on behalf of Virginia-10 localities."

"We are pleased to see that the Route 7/Route 690 interchange project is being considered as part of the INVEST in America Act," said Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis J. Randall, who is also chair of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority. "This funding will help improve connectivity around the Town of Purcellville for drivers and walkers alike--a project that's a win for county residents and the whole region as we work together on multimodal methods for improving our road network, particularly along a major corridor like this one."

Upon completion the project will significantly reduce traffic congestion in our Town and region. During construction Purcellville is committed to offering up to 50,000 gallons per day of reclaimed water to the site to achieve environmental sustainability goals embraced by Representative Wexton," said Purcellville Mayor Kwasi Fraser.

This new interchange at Route 7 and Hillsboro Road is vital to both Loudoun's rural business strategy, and to Purcellville's economic prospects and the quality of life of its citizens. The Route 7 and Hillsboro Road interchange project would increase the connectivity in the roadway network around Purcellville and provide a more direct route on major roadways to areas north and north east of the Route 7 bypass, including the schools complex at Woodgrove High School and Mountain View Elementary on Allder School Road (Route 711). The existing roadway network does not provide an ease of access for the local community to points north and northeast, particularly with the recent completion of Woodgrove High School northeast of the overpass. To access the schools complex, drivers from the west, southwest, and east are forced to use a network of narrow and unsurfaced roads, or travel through downtown Purcellville.

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee solicited requests from Members for district-specific projects to be included in the surface transportation reauthorization. The Committee unveiled specifics of the legislation this week, which would spend $547 billion over 5 years to repair and improve roads, bridges, public transit, passenger rail, and more across the country.
