Reps. Miller, Walberg Introduce Legislation to Reduce Child Poverty

Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) and Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) introduced the Targeting Child Care Funds Based on Poverty Act of 2021 to reduce child poverty and get federal resources to families that need them most. Specifically, the bill would target Child Care Entitlement to States (CCES) funding to states based on the number of children in poverty within each state.

The Targeting Child Care Funds Based on Poverty Act of 2021 is part of a recently unveiled family leave and child care package, led by House Republicans on both the Ways and Means and Education and Labor Committees. The proposal would provide families greater flexibility and access to affordable child care, and paid family and medical leave.

"As a mother and grandmother, I'm honored to introduce this important, commonsense legislation to support America's children," said Congresswoman Miller. "Each family faces different challenges, and our child care system should reflect that. By focusing federal resources to states with the greatest need, this bill will make a real difference in our mission to eradicate child poverty and get assistance to families that actually need it."
