King, Golden Announce $30 Million to Transform Housing, Health, and Education in Lewiston's "Tree Streets"

Senator Angus King (I-ME) and Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) announced the award of $30 million to the City of Lewiston today through the Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant program. The members of Congress sent a letter of support for the funding to the Department of Housing and Urban Development earlier this year.

The $30 million grant will go towards implementing Lewiston's collaborative plan for its "Tree Streets" neighborhood. The high-density area has an aging housing stock that is dilapidated and lead-affected in some areas, and is also home to many of the city's youngest and most low-income citizens.

"The City of Lewiston and its partners have done exceptional work to put together a plan to improve housing, education, and health for residents of the Tree Streets neighborhood in the city," said King and Golden. "With this substantial investment from the federal government, we can turn that plan into a reality that will remove dangerous lead hazards from housing, address crime, and improve health, broadband access, and educational opportunities for everyone living in Lewiston.
