Harder Touts More Than $291 Million in New Support for California Seniors

Today, Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) announced the release of more than $291 million in funding for California's critical Older Americans Act programs as part of the American Rescue Plan he helped pass.

"Every senior deserves to spend their golden years safe, happy, secure, and surrounded by their family," said Rep. Harder. "We've seen the tragic impact the pandemic has had on older folks in our community, and it's up to us to do everything we can to support them as we rebuild our Valley. With more than 100,000 seniors in our community, I'm proud to bring home this much needed funding."

This funding focuses on programs to support California seniors, with an emphasis on much-needed pandemic relief, including:

$77 million for meals for older adults in California;
$47 million for Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) through the Older Americans Act, supporting older Americans to age with dignity and safety in their homes and communities;
$4.5 million for evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention in California;
$14 million to help family caregivers support their loved ones; and
$1 million to safeguard the health and welfare of residents in California's long-term care facilities.
Josh has led the fight to deliver much needed help to seniors and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to delivering $1.4 billion in funding for Older Americans Act programs through the American Rescue Plan, Josh has helped ensure critical investments in the health, safety and financial security of older Americans. The American Rescue Plan increased funding to vaccinate California seniors, ensure they can afford their homes and utilities, put food on the table and more.
