Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4) issued a statement regarding H.R. 3237, Pelosi's Partisan Plan to Militarize the Capitol. This legislation spends $950 million to build a retractable fencing system, create a new National Guard quick reaction force, and require Capitol Police to wear body cameras in an attempt to harden the Nation's Capitol.
"Rather than securing our border where criminals continue to invade our country every day, Nancy Pelosi is prioritizing building a wall around the People's House. She is also abusing the National Guard by requiring them to be at her beck and call and providing enemies of peace a blueprint of our Capitol Complex by outfitting Capitol police with easily hackable body cameras."
Specifically, H.R. 3237 would provide $350 million to the Architect of the Capitol to ramp up physical security of the Capitol Complex, $200 million for a new quick reaction force, $21.5 million to increase personal protection details for certain Members of Congress, and $18 million for body cameras.
"The Capitol Police force patrols the grounds of the Capitol every day to secure our perimeters and ensure our nation's lawmakers and their staff can safely represent the American people. We should not be misusing the men and women in the National Guard who are meant to be mobilized for declared state and federal emergencies in support, not replacement, of law enforcement. These actions only serve the personal interests of Democrat leadership, undermine law enforcement agencies throughout Washington, D.C., and give a leg up to the increasing number of cyber-attackers already infiltrating our nation's infrastructure."
Congressman Steven Palazzo is a co-chair of the National Guard and Reserve Caucus and currently serves as a member of the Mississippi National Guard. Read more about how Congressman Palazzo fights in Congress for our men and women in uniform here.
