Westerman Statement on President Biden's Joint Address to Congress

Statement

Date: April 28, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Tonight, in his opening remarks, President Biden said, "There is no quit in America". I couldn't agree more, but I cannot condone the way in which the President has implemented his ideals.

Candidate Joe Biden promised to unify the country. Instead, President Biden's first 100 days have been a master class in ramming through divisive, liberal, partisan priorities often without any legislative engagement whatsoever.

President Biden has stripped jobs from thousands of energy workers, created a crisis at our southern border, plunged the nation farther into debt through radical, unnecessary spending, and threatened our energy independence by making the U.S. reliant on hostile foreign nations. Far from the promise of unity, he cut out Republicans from every discussion on COVID relief, forcing passage of trillions in spending completely on party lines. President Biden has carried out the left's every whim, earning the sound approval of the far-left progressive movement.

President Biden signed away the Keystone Pipeline, ended the construction of the border wall, and proposes to raise taxes exponentially on hardworking Americans. President Biden reinstated the failed catch and release policy and ended the proven Remain in Mexico policy, triggering the highest rate of illegal immigration in 20 years.

President Biden is attempting to expand the control of the federal government to every part of American life in Democrats never-ending bid for power. Tonight's announcement of the American Families Plan is just the next chapter of raising taxes to the detriment of American prosperity and bending to the will of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Bernie Sanders, and "the squad."
