Harris Reacts to Delegation Meeting with Maryland Transportation Secretary

Statement

Date: May 12, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., yesterday joined the Maryland Congressional Delegation in a discussion on Governor Hogan's infrastructure and transportation priorities with Maryland's Secretary of Transportation Gregory Slater. Congressman Harris raised questions related to the displacement of toll plazas in Cecil County along I-95, the establishment of Slaughter Creek as the base of operations for Mid-Bay Island Restoration, and the potential expansion of evacuation routes from Ocean City.

Congressman Harris issued the following statement:

"I'd like to thank Secretary Slater for taking time yesterday to discuss Governor Hogan's transportation and infrastructure priorities for Maryland. The Secretary was open to further discussion and follow ups related to my specific concerns, and we will work together to address them. Unfortunately, at a nationwide level, many in the House majority continue to place a strong emphasis on non-traditional infrastructure spending, which looks more like a President Biden social engineering wish list rather than spending hard-earned taxpayer dollars on the roads, airports, and bridges we need. As our debt continues to soar and after we spent trillions of dollars in emergency spending last year, it is critical that any infrastructure package be narrowly tailored to address the real infrastructure needs Americans rely upon every day."
