Fortenberry Votes for Independent Bipartisan Commission to Investigate Political Violence on and before January 6

Statement

Date: May 19, 2021

Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (NE-01) made the following statement today after voting to support H.R. 3233----the National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act.

"In an event unlike any I have witnessed in my life, on January 6 of this year, a radical mob invaded the United States Capitol. Their violently destructive actions undermined the principles of democracy they pretended to exercise. From just outside my office window, police detonated an explosive device. Today, I voted for an independent commission to investigate the events of January 6. It has five Democrats, five Republicans, and no one has veto power," Fortenberry said.

"Most Nebraskans desperately want a return to regular, peaceful order in Washington and the rest of America. I am hopeful that this bipartisan commission helps us do that----by honestly, fairly, and thoroughly investigating the truth of what happened on and before January 6, including the culture of political violence that has plagued this country over the last several years," Fortenberry added.
