Fortenberry Statement on Biden Address to Joint Session of Congress

Statement

Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (NE-01) made the following statement today in advance of President Biden's first address to a joint session of Congress.

"Our earlier bipartisan emergency measures to turn the corner on this harsh pandemic should not become an excuse for a hostile takeover by the federal government of every aspect of American life," Fortenberry said.

"The question about the President's expansive spending proposals outlined tonight is not whether we spend or not, but what makes sense. Getting past COVID and "returning to normal' also means returning to normal governance and normal government expenditures," Fortenberry added.

"I commend the President for effectively using a tone of compassion and empathy through his speech, but the debate over whether a massive expansion of government can be effective in solving America's problems will be ongoing in DC and throughout the country," Fortenberry said.
