Today, Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) co-sponsored the "Putting Our First-Responders First Act," a bill originally introduced by Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC).
The legislation codifies a 1985 IRS ruling that made service-connected disability compensation tax-exempt. The bill would also clarify that this tax-exempt status would continue after a first responder's retirement age.
Rep. Budd said in a statement:
"Our first responders put their livelihoods on the line for our communities everyday. It makes total sense to give these men and women permanent tax relief if they are injured in service to us all."
