Torres Announces Nearly $133 Million in Funding for Inland Empire Institutions of Higher Learning

Press Release

Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) today announced nearly $133 million in COVID relief funds for Inland Empire colleges and universities thanks to the Congressionally-passed American Rescue Plan.

The funds, which are furnished by the Department of Education, are part of a $36 billion nationwide investment largely intended to support students most impacted by the pandemic. Half of the funding allocated to public and private non-profit institutions, and all the funds allocated to for-profit institutions, must be spent on emergency financial aid grants to students.

Congresswoman Torres released the following statement:

"Inland Empire schools face incredible pressure during this pandemic to not only deliver vital support to our students, families, and communities, but to do so with far fewer resources than before," Rep. Norma J. Torres said. "The funds I'm announcing today -- nearly $133 million -- will help these colleges recover from the pandemic and ensure students most impacted by COVID-19 can focus on their education and successfully work towards their degree."

Congresswoman Torres sits on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for allocating all federal discretionary spending. Torres leverages her seat to maximize federal spending in the Inland Empire. To date, she has announced nearly $3.4 billion in COVID relief over the last year.
