DeLauro Statement on President Biden's Joint Address to Congress

Statement

Date: April 28, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued this statement following President Biden's Joint Address to Congress:

"Tonight was a historic evening for many reasons. For me, the most poignant was seeing two women seated behind the President for the first time: the first female Vice President and the first female Speaker of the House.

"It was also a night of great promise and hope. Because of President Biden and our Democratic Congress, America is on the move again. I am honored to have been in the House Chamber tonight as President Biden highlighted my efforts to permanently expand and improve the Child Tax Credit and call for passage of my equal pay legislation, the Paycheck Fairness Act.

"In 100 days, President Biden has begun delivering on his promises and laid the foundation for transformational change. Building on the shots in arms and money in pockets we have already delivered, President Biden has crafted a vision for our country to overcome the pandemic, create opportunity, and construct an architecture for a prosperous and equitable future.

"From raising the minimum wage to $15, reimagine how we care for children, standing up for workers and unions, and focusing on Buy American, this vision centered around how government can work for the people will transform our economy into one that leaves no one behind. Together, we will build upon the success of the American Rescue Plan, work to craft legislation based on the American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan, and help every family and community in every corner of this nation build back better."
