Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) urged U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai during a House Ways and Means Committee hearing to fully utilize the environmental enforcement provisions in the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Larson was a member of the House USMCA Task Force and focused on environmental protections.

"Climate change poses the greatest existential threat of our lifetimes. As the world's largest economy, it is essential for the United States to use trade policy as leverage to advance our climate goals. I look forward to working with the U.S. Trade Representative to ensure the Paris Climate Accords are fully integrated as a covered multilateral environmental agreement (MEA) in the USMCA and other trade agreements," said Larson.

Last month, Larson sent a letter with more than 30 colleagues, urging Ambassador Tai to implement and enforce the environmental protections in the USMCA.
