ICYMI: Hinson Joined by Rep. Spanberger (D-VA) for Discussion on Bipartisan Bill to Help Farmers, Small Businesses

Press Release

Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-IA) and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) worked together to introduce the PPP Equity Act, legislation that ensures farmers, ranchers, and self-employed small business owners can receive their full PPP forgivable loan amount. The Congresswomen discussed their legislation as well as their efforts to work across the aisle in Congress.

Rep. Spanberger on the PPP Program: "How the dollars in this program needed to be spent initially were too restrictive. We made adjustments to that to provide more flexibility to business owners. One of the things that's really important for farmers and ranchers is ensuring that farmers and ranchers are using their gross receipts rather than their net receipts in order to submit their applications for PPP. Our PPP loans were really a lifeline, we wanted to make sure that there was the most flexibility possible, and allowing our farmers and producers to be able to use those gross receipts was really important in that added level of flexibility."

Rep. Hinson on the PPP Equity Act:"That's where our bill, the PPP Equity Act, came into play. It's a bipartisan bill that will help extend that retroactively to those who had already been through the process, had applied, and had their loans forgiven. You talk about the ranchers. You talk about the farmers who have needed that access, and those sole proprietors who were heavily impacted. It was a true need that you and I both worked together on...and something we're working on seeing through."

Rep. Hinson on reaching across the aisle:"It's awesome to hear more about your district because Iowa's First Congressional District is very similar in makeup to yours. We have a lot of agriculture and we have a lot of manufacturing, we have a mix of suburban and rural areas. There are a lot of places where you and I can work together, and a lot of Members of Congress can work together."
