WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement about the April jobs report:

"Today's weak jobs report was disappointing but not surprising. Schools should have been reopened months ago, which would help more parents get back to work. We need to end the wasteful government practice of paying people more money to stay at home than going back to work. Neither of those common-sense reforms have occurred under President Biden, and his policies are costing jobs. Manufacturing jobs actually declined in April. We are seeing alarming signs of inflation, fears of a massive tax increases, and muddled messages from the White House about returning to normal life. The Biden Burden on our economy is starting to have a devastating impact on hard-working families."
