Congressman Steven Horsford Votes to Pass the NO BAN Act

Today, Congressman Steven Horsford voted to pass the NO BAN Act, which strengthens the Immigration and Nationality Act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of religion and limits presidential powers to issue future travel bans.

"Donald Trump's bigoted and unconstitutional Muslim Ban separated families and forced Muslim-Americans to live in fear. We must never allow xenophobia and hatred to govern our nation's immigration policies again," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "I'm grateful that President Biden took immediate action to rescind the Muslim Ban on his first day in office. Going forward, we must ensure that no president is ever able to issue discriminatory travel bans. As the son of an immigrant, I'm proud to vote for the NO BAN Act to close dangerous discrimination loopholes in our immigration laws and reaffirm America's commitment to religious tolerance and diversity."

The peril members of our faith community experienced as a result of targeted discrimination by the Trump Administration after it issued the Muslim Ban should not be experienced by any group in the future," said Athar Haseebullah, Executive Director of the ACLU of Nevada. "The NO BAN ACT will make necessary reforms to the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) to prevent future discriminatory bans. As this bill moves forward, it is crucial that this legislation isn't watered down or altered and Congress demonstrates its commitment to the protection of civil liberties for all."

Congressman Horsford previously voted for the NO BAN Act in the 116th Congress, where it passed the House of Representatives 233-183 with bipartisan support.
